Treatment of facial and ocular rosacea at CARE
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that manifests itself as redness on the face and, occasionally, on the neck and chest. It can also affect the eyes, resulting in what is known as ocular rosacea. At Clinique CARE, we use OptiLight by Lumenis technology to effectively treat facial and ocular rosacea, offering a complete solution for this condition.
Understanding Rosacea
Facial Rosacea: Facial rosacea is characterized by persistent redness, visible blood vessels, pimples and burning or stinging sensations on the skin. It can vary in severity, and flare-ups are often triggered by certain environmental or dietary factors.
Ocular Rosacea: Ocular rosacea affects the eyes, causing symptoms such as dryness, irritation, redness of the eyelids and inflammation of the Meibomian glands. This form of rosacea can lead to eye complications if not properly treated.
Link between facial and ocular rosacea
Patients with facial rosacea often present with symptoms of ocular rosacea. Both forms of rosacea share similar inflammatory mechanisms, and it is common for ocular symptoms to appear before or after skin manifestations. Consequently, it is crucial to treat both aspects of rosacea for complete and lasting relief.
Treatment with OptiLight by Lumenis
OptiLight for Facial Rosacea: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy with OptiLight uses controlled pulses of light to target abnormal blood vessels and reduce inflammation. This treatment reduces redness, improves skin tone and stimulates collagen production, thus limiting recurrence.
OptiLight for Ocular Rosacea: For ocular rosacea, IPL helps clear clogged Meibomian glands, reducing inflammation and improving tear quality. This non-invasive treatment is well tolerated and offers long-lasting results with little or no recovery time.
Treatment process
- Initial evaluation: A complete examination to assess the condition of the skin and eyes, including a scan of the Meibomian glands for patients with ocular rosacea symptoms.
- Treatment sessions: Each IPL treatment session lasts approximately 15 minutes. Generally, several sessions are required to achieve optimal results.
- Photobiomodulation (LLLT): Complementing IPL, photobiomodulation uses LED lights to further reduce inflammation and promote healing of eye and skin tissue.
Benefits of OptiLight Treatment
- Non-invasive: No surgery or injections required.
- Proven efficacy: Significant reduction in facial and ocular rosacea symptoms.
- Safety: Well-tolerated procedures with little or no downtime.
