iLux® treatment for dry eyes

The iLux® treatment is an innovative method designed to treat Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), a common cause of dry eye. This technology uses a combination of heat and gentle pressure to unblock the Meibomian glands and restore normal glandular function, improving ocular comfort.

How does iLux® Treatment work?

The iLux® device is a hand-held device that applies targeted heat to the eyelids to melt away blockages in the Meibomian glands. Here are the typical steps in an iLux® treatment session:

1. Eyelid positioning: The optometrist places the patient's eyelid between the soft pads of the iLux® device.
2. Applying heat: The device applies heat for a few minutes to loosen blockages in the Meibomius glands.
3. Controlled pressure: The optometrist can apply gentle pressure to express the oils from the glands, checking the effectiveness of the treatment by visualizing the extracted oils.

The entire treatment usually takes between 8 and 12 minutes per eye, and patients can return to their daily activities immediately afterwards.
